Imran’s jail security costs Rs1.2m per month
LAHORE: An amount of over Rs1.2 million is being spent on the security of Imran Khan every month in the Adiala jail of Rawalpindi.
This information was placed before Lahore High Court by the attorney general for Pakistan during hearing of a case related to security arrangements for the PTI founder in the jail.
The court was told that seven cells have been reserved for Imran Khan. He is being kept in one cell while the remaining attached cells are kept vacant and also under his use.
In the jail, one guard is deputed for the security of 10 prisoners while for Imran 14 security personnel are on duty round the clock.
Food for the jailed former prime minister is prepared in a special kitchen specifically reserved for him. For his security, cameras have also been installed at a cost of Rs500,000 each.
The judge inquired if Imran’s meals were examined by doctors, to which the AGP replied in the affirmative.
“Jail superintendent and doctors examine the meal before it is served,” he said.
It may be mentioned here that the former prime minister was arrested in August 5, 2023, from Lahore and shifted to Attock. Later, he was transferred to the Adiala jail.
