Murad Saeed escapes arrest before police raid

PESHAWAR: Murad Saeed, a close aide of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan and a former federal minister for communication, escaped from a house at Nasir Bagh area of Peshawar a few minutes before police raided there to arrest him.

According to the police, an FIR has been registered against a brother-in-law and other relatives on the charge of hindering the police from its official work and helping the PTI leader escaped from the house. They were also accused of sheltering the former federal minister against whom a case is registered in connection with the May 9 violence in the country.

Superintendent of Police Warsak area Nasir Khan told media that Murad Saeed was hiding at the house of his relatives in Nasir Bagh.

On a tip-off, he said, the police raided the house to arrest him. However, his brother-in-law and other relatives helped the suspect in fleeing from the house. The SP said the relatives also entered into a heated  argument with the police and some of them scuffled with the officials.

The police said that two servants of Murad Saeed, who belongs to Swat, along with a vehicle under the use of the former minister were recovered from the house.
