ISLAMABAD: The federal government has set aside 10 per cent of locally produced liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for Balochistan and Chitral as part of efforts to improve fuel availability in the two regions.
According to the government’s Annual Plan 2026–27, the LPG production in Pakistan reached approximately 767,000 metric tonnes in the fiscal year 2025–26.
The decision was taken in principle during the second LPG policy meeting held on October 27 under the chairmanship of Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ali Pervaiz Malik, according to PML-N leader and former MNA Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin.
In a statement, he said that had also taken part in the first LPG policy meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on October 8, 2026. Two senators from Balochistan also attended the latest meeting.
The allocation of local LPG production is intended to address fuel supply needs in Balochistan and Chitral. However, details regarding the implementation of the allocation and the distribution mechanism are yet to be made public.
The LPG policy meetings are focused on issues related to the production, supply and distribution of liquefied petroleum gas in the country.
The government has been stressing the need to provide LPG in Chitral to meet the local demand and reduce dependence on firewood aimed at checking deforestation in the valley.
