PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) to fully focus on the promotion of tourism activities and complete all ongoing initiatives and activities as soon as possible.
PTDC motels in KP should be made functional to facilitate tourists. The chief minister also directed the authority to take concrete steps to make the PTDC units functional, adding all those PTDC units in which minor repair work had to be done should be completed to make them functional during the current season.
He issued these directives while chairing third meeting of the Board of Directors of KPCTA. The meeting approved the budget estimates of the authority for the current fiscal year and various tourist activities.
The PTDC motels in KP including in Chitral and other areas in the north were closed by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) which also terminated the services of its employees in 2020.
A notification at that time had said the corporation was forced to take this decision as it had been suffering losses continuously.
“Due to continuous and irreparable financial losses having no other resource and the current Covid-19 pandemic, the federal government and PTDC Board of Directors unanimously resolved to close down the operations of the company,” the notification said.
In March this year, the federal government transferred 19 motels to KPCTA to help facilitate tourists and boost tourism in the province.
“We are taking tangible steps to facilitate tourists and promote tourism in the upcoming season. The transfer of PTDC 19 motels is a good omen for promotion of tourism as they would be very helpful in provision of quality accommodation to the tourists in various destinations of the province,” Director General KPCTA Abid Wazir had said then.
