CHITRAL: The students and staff members of University of Chitral (UoC) have been on a strike against an unprecedented increase in transport charges and non-regularization of services.
The students told ChitralToday that earlier the transport charges were Rs27,000 but these were increased to Rs34,000 against which they launched the protest a few days ago.
The employees from grade 1 to 16 were demanding regularization their jobs and increase in pays and perks.
The protesters also said the university administration had so far failed to purchase land for the construction of a building for the university.
As the students and staff held a huge protest on Friday, the deputy commissioner Anwarul Haq intervened and assured the students that the issue of transport charges would be resolved. On this, the students decided to call off the protest.
However, the issue of the contractual employees could not be resolved due to the internal issues of the university administration and their strike continued.—Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
