Canadian envoy advocates women’s inclusion in winter sports

DROSH: The fourth Hindukush Snow Sports Festival ended in Madaklasht valley of Lower Chitral. The event was organized by the Hindukush Snow Sports Club with support from the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives, Sarhad Rural Support Program, district administration and Bejaan Hotel.

Canadian High Commissioner Wendy Gilmour attended the festival on February 11 and inaugurated the ski and snowboarding competitions. She advocated women’s inclusion in winter sports and ecotourism activities.
The festival consisted of ski and snowboarding competitions and training, ski touring, snow trekking, cultural night, a cultural bazaar where local products were sold.
Fourth Hindukush snow sports festival The final round of the competition was conducted to decide the winners in Under 16, Under 21 and 21 and above age categories and snowboarding category. 
Adviser to chief minister KP on minority affairs MPA Wazirzada was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
He announced Rs500,000 for the skiers of Madaklasht and also announced developmental projects for the area.
