Chitrali woman police official made muharrar in Shangla

SHANGLA: Chitrali woman police official Bibi Zar has been appointed as muharrar at a local police station in Shangla district.

Talking to this correspondent, district police officer Shangla Malak Ijaz said it was the first such step taken by Shangla police to deploy a female muharrar at a police station.

Bibi Zar, who has been serving as head constable at Bisham police station, said it was her desire to serve women as the region’s women were suppressed and unable to report their complaints to police due to absence of female staff at the police stations.

“I have been serving here for the last five years and am well aware of the local culture and customs,” she said.

It may be noted that a large number of young educated women from Chitral are serving in the KP police as women from other districts of the province mostly avoid joining the force.

Last year, a woman police official from Chitral became the first ever woman muharrar of a police station in the province.
