KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 11 suspects, including the owner of a call centre hailing from Gilgit, during a raid on an allegedly illegal international call centre in Karachi over accusations of defrauding foreign nationals, particularly US citizens.

According to the NCCIA, the raid was conducted at a call centre located on the first floor of Zafar Centre on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Karachi. Those arrested include call centre owner Yasir Gilgiti, agents, super agents and a floor manager. Two other suspects named in the case are still at large.

Preliminary investigations have reportedly revealed a suspected network involved in stealing banking information from American citizens. The suspects allegedly impersonated representatives of US banks and financial institutions to deceive individuals over the phone.

Investigators said the suspects allegedly obtained social security numbers and credit and debit card details through fraudulent calls. The stolen financial information was then reportedly used for illegal financial transactions.

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized digital devices and other electronic equipment believed to be linked to the alleged criminal activities.

The NCCIA’s Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Karachi has registered a case against 13 suspects under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
