Lifting of ban on NGOs urged to help flood-hit people
CHITRAL: A former councilor has said the government should lift a ban imposed on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) so that they can help the flood affected people.
Ahmed Khan from Koghuzi village told ChitralToday that in the past NGOs had helped people of Barghuzi when the village was hit by drought by providing them water and taking part in other relief activities.
But the floods in Golen valley earlier this year destroyed supply lines for both drinking and irrigation.
The people of the village depended on agriculture for their livelihood and due to the absence of water they have lost their only source of income.
To add salt to the injuries, the government was neither helping the affected people on its own nor allowing NGOs to work in the affected area, he added.
