Kalash community’s spring festival inaugurated
BUMBURATE: The annual spring festival of Kalash community, Chilimjush, was on Wednesday inaugurated under the aegis of the ministry of religious and minorities affairs.
Deputy secretary of the ministry Imran Rashid had come from Islamabad to represent the ministry.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, he said the government was committed to ensure free and secure environment to the minorities to practice their religious rituals.
He said the government would provide all-out support to the Kalash community to celebrate their festivals in befitting manner.
Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral Khurshid Alam Mahsud, who opened the festival, said anyone trying to ridicule any practice or festival of the community would land behind bars.
He said the Kalash community because of its unique culture and traditions was known all over the world.
He also said that work on the construction of the road to Kalash valleys would start son.
Incharge of Chitral Museum Saeed Gul Kalash demanded preservation of Kalash artefacts in the valley. He said there was also a need to check rampant misleading information being spread on social media about the Kalash community and their practices.
