Man sent to jail on charge of shooting markhor

CHITRAL: On the complaint of the wildlife department, the police have arrested a man and are searching for another on the charge of shooting a markhor and injuring it at the Sha Sha conservatory near Shoghor village. The 10-year-old markhor was later caught by the wildlife department officials and the local people of Shoghor and its video went viral on the social media.
The wildlife department has claimed that its officials were monitoring two men who shot the markhor and fled. It claimed that its officials reached the spot without wasting time and caught the injured animal with the help of the locals. However, when the markhor was being brought to the veterinary hospital Chitral it died on the way.
A postmortem carried out on the carcass showed that the markhor had received a bullet and died of the injury, said the DC office Chitral in a social media post.
On the complaint of the wildlife department, the police registered an FIR under the Wildlife Act 2015 and raided the house of one of the accused identified as Islam Baig of Awi in Shoghor and arrested him.
The accused was produced before the court of Assistant Commissioner Alamgir Khan on Monday from where he was sent to jail. –Bashir Hussain Azad
