Schoolchildren urged to grow nurseries of indigenous plants

BANG (YARKHUN): An environment activist told a gathering of students here that in order to make Chitral cleaner and greener, they should play their role by setting up nurseries of indigenous plants in their homes as well as schools.
Addressing the students at the Govt High School Bang, Rehmat Ali Jaffar Dost criticized the way saplings were planted across Chitral under the previous KP government’s tsunami billion tree project. He said alien and wild plants had been planted in Chitral that would wreck havoc with the local environment when they grow up.
He said the need of the hour was to plant local trees for the benefit of the people as well as the environment. He urged the students to work on growing nurseries in their neighbourhoods so that the new indigenous saplings could be planted in open spaces in the spring.
