Snow leopards go berserk in Yarkhun, kill scores of cattle
CHITRAL: People in the Yarkhun valley of upper Chitral have called upon the government, especially its wildlife department, to compensate them for the losses they incurred after snow leopards killed scores of their cattle.
They said they respected the wildlife department’s laws and had protected snow leopards but the wild animals were now killing their cattle causing them losses of thousands of rupees.
Reports said that snow leopards had gone berserk in different summer grazing areas of the valley and killed six cows and 14 goats within the last one week.
The owners of the animals, including Faiz Ullah, Nowsher Khan, Rehmat Hussain, Sharbat Khan, Ibrahim Khan, Jahangir Khan, Jabbar and Ghulam Khan, appealed to the government to compensate them and also provide protection to their animals against the wild cats as they mostly depend on the cattle for their livelihood. –Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
