CHITRAL: After managing to get go-ahead from the high command of Jamaat-e-Islamai (JI) to go solo for the NA-1 seat of Chitral, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali on Sunday assured the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) local leaders that no individual could make or break the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA).
During a meeting with the JUI leaders at Rehankot near Chitral town, the former MNA said the MMA was the sign of unity and also a need of the Muslim Ummah and would continue to work for the progress of the Muslims. He said MMA was not an alliance of two religious parties but had been formed to meet the aspirations of the Muslim Ummah.
Those who want to break the MMA are hell-bent on creating schism among the Muslim Ummah, he claimed.
It may be noted that there is a grouping in the JI over the allocation of tickets for the elections. One group led by district nazim Maghfirat Shah had been actively working to get the NA-1 ticket for Mr Shah by sidelining Maulana Chitrali.
It has been learnt that the provincial head of the JI, Mushtaq Ahmed, may visit Chitral soon to resolve the differences in the party. –Bashir Hussain
