Broghil again skipped for anti-polio drive
It may be noted that children in Broghil were also missed during the previous anti-polio campaign. A health department official told ChitralToday that Gobor was also not covered in the last drive. He said a special team would be sent to Broghil as soon as the road to the area opens after the melting of snow. He also claimed that polio vaccine becomes ineffective in severe cold. The drive was started by administering drops to a child on the premises of the women and children hospital in Chitral town. Additional Deputy Commissioner Minhas Uddin, District Health Officer Dr Israr Ullah, Coordinator for the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) Dr Fayyaz Ali Roomi and other officials were present. Dr Roomi on the occasion told the gathering that in total 6,8104 children under the age of five years would be administered polio drops during the campaign in Chitral. He said 505 teams had been constituted who would be visiting door to door to cover the children. He said 117 mobile, roaming and transit teams had also been formed so that no child was missed out. It may be noted that Chitral remains a polio free district for the last over two decades. –Syed Nazir Hussain Shah.]]>
