Village threatened by river flooding as govt looks other way

Despite repeated appeals and demands by the inhabitants of the village for years, the government paid no heed to the danger posed to the village from the river flooding. The local people fear that the flood in the river could wash away not only their houses but also agricultural land, a mosque along with a jeepabale bridge on the river connecting the area with other parts of the district. The residents said they had become fed up with submitting applications to the elected representatives, including District Nazim Maghfirat Shah,  to construct a protection wall along the river. It is because of the negligence of the government and the elected representatives that today the people of the village are spending sleepless nights due to the impending flooding into their area. The area people said after the government failed to come to their rescue, the SRSP provided a handsome amount of money to raise and strengthen a wall along the road between the river and the village. But as the work on the project was underway, the volume of water in the river increased and started flowing over the newly-raised wall due to which the work had to be suspended. The residents said there was an urgent need to raise the wall by at least three feet to check the water from entering the village. As they have already lost confidence in the government and the district administration, the residents expressed the hope that the SRSP would allocate more funds for raising the wall.]]>
