KP assembly passes resolution on subsidized power supply to Chitral
PESHAWAR: The provincial assembly here passed a resolution asking the government to ensure supply of electricity to Chitral on subsidized rate.
The resolution was moved by Salim Khan, the PPP member of the assembly from lower Chitral.
It may be noted that the recent floods damaged most of the small powerhouses built by different NGOs and the local communities in the whole valley of Chitral. Many of the powerhouses were washed away or their water channels damaged. Besides, the Reshun powerhouse was also destroyed in the floods.
Apart from that, the Chitrral town has also been facing an acute shortage of electricity for years. In his resolution, the MPA stated that to cope with the power crisis in the aftermath of the floods in Chitral, the governmet should provide 30 megawatts from the under-construction 106 megawatt Golen Gol powerhouse to the whole district.
Talking to ChitralToday on phone, MPA Salim Khan said for the supply of power from Golen Gol to Chitral district, a 132 KV grid station had to be first installed in Chitral.
He said on his demand, WAPDA had a few years ago assured him that the grid station would be set up at Juti Lasht but so far no progress has been made on it. He said in his resolution tabled in the house, he stressed the need for the provision of 30 MW to whole Chitral on a priority basis. The MPA said he also tabled another resolution on Wednesday demanding to increase the relief assistance to the flood-affected people from Rs100,000 to Rs300,000 besides proposing the Chitral Area Development Project for the rehabilitation of the flood-devastated people.
This resolution was also passed by the house unanimously, he added. The MPA said that he was working hard to press the government to provide funds and other assistance to Chitral so that the people rendered homeless could be rehabilitated before the start of the cold season during which construction activities cannot be carried out.
i will be a great acheivement if govt will give 35 MW to chitral from golen gole hydro project.it is my humble requst from all the political parties and their leadeship please irrespective of your differences and political affiliations you should fight for us.the allocated power should be given to us at very affordable price, the most important thing is that we sholud also solve our fuel issues.this will negate the deforestation as a result the main risk factor of flood will also be minimized
