ISLAMABAD, July 25: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said during the next three to four days a severe weather system is likely to persist in Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan.
As a result, there is the threat of Glacial Lake Outbrust Flood (GLOF), particularly in PMD’s pilot GLOF sites of Bagrot, Bindogol and Golen valleys. Local communities are advised to remain on alert and the authorities concerned should take precautionary measures, it added.
Once, Global Warming considered a myth has now become a fact, as the process of glacial retreat in in Hindukush has resulted in devastated floods in the length and breath of district Chitral. The global community especially the developed nations and greater contributors to the green house gases like USA, China, UK, France and Japan etc..should take the matter seriously and act upon the global conventions on climate. Its high time for govt: of Pakistan to raise the issue on international forum to redress the flood affectees of district Chitral…
