PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has formed a special committee to review 74 laws passed during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
The provincial Law Department established the committee to examine the transparency and legal validity of legislation approved during PTI’s tenure. According to a media report, the review follows the imposition of governor’s rule and the formation of a new provincial government.
The committee must submit its detailed report and recommendations to senior officials within seven days to help determine the government’s next steps.
The review covers legislation concerning 20 provincial departments, prosecution services, universities and medical teaching institutions. Laws relating to the powers and privileges of provincial assembly members will also be examined.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour said several laws had been passed during the PTI government in haste and without a transparent process.
She said reviewing the legislation and correcting any shortcomings had become a key priority for the provincial government.
The committee’s findings are expected to help the government identify legal gaps and recommend any necessary changes to the laws under review.
