Govt asked to go after forest destroyers
PESHAWAR, Feb 9: The Chitral Heritage and Environmental Protection Society (CHEPS) held a peace protest walk at Peshawar Press Club on Monday. Speaking to the participants, Chairman CHEPS Rehmat Ali Jaffer Dost said he wanted to express its deepest gratitude to the provincial government and PTI Chairman Imran Khan for taking personal interest in safeguarding forests and environment as a whole. The chief minister and the PTI chairman recently visited Hazara Division and took notice of the involvement of public officials in deforestation and related acts of corruption. Though there still is a long way to go, this step by the provincial government sends around a clear message to those involved in deforestation and destruction. “I have a long standing dream which seems to have come true with this step taken by the provincial government,” said Mr Dost. “CHEPS would like to appeal to the provincial government to enforce the international laws according to which royalty should be given to those who safeguard trees and other environmental resources,” he added. Second, this protest is to express our concern over the recent act of robbery of the Kalash delegation to India. Kalash are and have been the most peaceful group in our country and have long been the face of any cultural recognition Pakistan has attempted forge. Through this peace protest walk we would like to appeal to the Federal government and Punjab government to bring to justice those involved.]]>
Great initiative by the PTI Chairman we all appreciate this and similarly the services of Rehmat Ali CHEPS. However i would like to remind the PTI government to take actions against its own President who was reported to have been involved in this deforestation. Actions should speak louder than words.
Respected Liaqaut you are right that forest is our wealth but if its stated as forest was our wealth it will be better sentence for enhancing the catharsis. PTI government already shattered there position in KPK and there role for the betterment of the province seem like rolling rocks. The PTI spend his best working times in the Islamabad protest rather to spend in the protection of our nation wealth.
Well done Jafar Dost. Protecting forest means protection of national wealth, human lives, livestock and wild life. Decisions taken by PTI leaders when implemented by PTI government shall definitely bring strength to its government and give reward from community at large specially from Northern Pakistan.
The peace protest walk was held yesterday by Chitral heritage and environmental protection society (CHEPS) in Peshawar is an excellent step regarding the awareness about environment as well as forest protection for mountain community. But its too late to protect the forest ,as the number and quantity of forest is no more except the barren mountain. So the protest walk is for barren mountain. When the church of Christianity lose their hold on religion as well as on the cultural, traditional and moral values in 16th century then the Christian religion divided into two parties: the Catholic and the Protestant. Just like that Protestant who protest peacefully but too late for religion. Most of our forest , deforested by the local timber mafia agent while the remnant forestry were flooded in 2010 flood.
