Protesters slam govt apathy towards Chitral's communication problems

ISLAMABAD, Jan 9: Leaders belonging to different political parties from Chitral along with representatives of civil society organization held a protest demonstration against the federal government for not opening the under-construction Lowari tunnel after the closure of the Lowari top road due to the snowfall.
protest copyThe protest demonstration held at the high security D. Chowk near the parliament house was organized by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chitral and attended by scores of Chitralis living in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Speaking on the occasion, the political leaders said that the people of Chitral were facing a humanitarian crisis due to the closure of the Lowari pass but the federal government was least concerned to resolve the issue.
They warned that if the under-construction tunnel was not opened for 48 hours in a week the people of Chitral would extend their protest till the issue was resolved. The political leaders had come to Islamabad from Chitral to highlight the communication problems of Chitral.
Those who spoke on the occasion included PTI Chitral president Abdul Lateef Advocate, Wg-Cdr Fardad Ali Shah, Razitubillah, Maulana Hussain Ahmed, Khalilur Rehman, Ghulam Mustafa and Abdul Ghafar. Later, the participants of the protest also held a protest outside the national press club and then dispersed peacefully.
