Police told not to harass citizens
CHITRAL, Aug 20: Deputy Inspector General of Police Malakand Division Abdullah Khan here on Tuesday directed the local police not to harass the people of the valley by setting up unnecessary security barricades and checkposts. He was speaking at a police Darbar at the police lines Chitral. He said that police should deal with the people with full courtesy when they come to the police stations with complaints. After registration of an FIR, the accused should not be detained in lock-ups beyond the time specified under the law. He said that the traffic police should also avoid launching campaigns against commuters, especially motorcyclists, without valid reasons. The DIG also ordered transfer of all those officials who have been working on specific posts for a long duration of time in different police stations. He said committees should be formed consisting of local people in all the police stations of Chitral to get the problems of the people resolved. The DIG also said that the chief minister and the IGP had issued special directives to the police to provide full protection to the foreign tourists visiting Chitral.—S. Nazir Hussain ]]>
