Recovery of kidnapped Chitrali girl demanded

TIMERGARA, June 6: The residents of Upper Dir staged protest against the kidnapping of a girl student on Wednesday. Led by Abdul Waris and Abdullah, the residents took out protest procession from Dir bazaar and reached the office of the district coordination office after marching through various bazaars. They chanted slogans against the local administration. Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Waris, Mohammad Irshad, Ikramullah, Abdullah and Abdul Salam said they would be forced to take extreme steps if the government did not recover the student within 48 hours. They asked the authorities to arrest the accused and give them punishment in public. District Officer Revenue (DOR) Irshad Khan reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. He assured the protesters that the girl would be recovered soon. The student belonging to Chitral district was living with her relatives in Girgat village and was on her way to the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Dir town to appear in her practical examination when the kidnappers seized her and drove her away. Former Member National Assembly (MNA) Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali has expressed grave concern over the kidnapping of the girl. In a press release on Wednesday, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader said Akhtar Parveen, a second year student in the Government Girls College in Upper Dir, was abducted by certain persons supported by the pro-government peace committee members in the area. He accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government of giving a free hand to the armed members of the so-called peace committee. He asked the government to recover the innocent girl forthwith and punish those involved in the abduction. He added the JI would continue protest till the girl was recovered safe and handed over to the parents.]]>

  1. It is very complicated and dangerous trend. Why we marry off our daughters to non-locals. when we do it, people alien to our culture take it for granted and attack on our culture taking advantage of our docility. Its time we take precautionary measures to protect our cultural values instead of waiting for such incidents and holding protest demonstration in the streets.
