Zhob, July 3, 2026: At least 39 people were killed after a passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine in Zhob area of Balochistan on Friday, rescue officials said.
The bus was travelling from Quetta to Peshawar. The accident occurred in the Dana Sar area when the bus reportedly suffered a brake failure while negotiating a sharp bend, causing the driver to lose control.
Police, district administration officials, and rescue teams rushed to the scene and launched a large-scale rescue operation. The impact completely destroyed the bus, forcing rescuers to cut through the wreckage to recover victims and survivors.
The deceased included women and children, while several injured passengers were shifted to a nearby hospital. Authorities said a number of the injured remain in critical condition.
Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Kakar said 16 passengers died at the scene, while others succumbed to their injuries during rescue efforts and after being taken to hospital.
President Asif Ali Zardari and the Government of Balochistan expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, extended condolences to the bereaved families, and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
