Chitral, July 1, 2026: Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms triggered flash floods in different parts of Chitral overnight, damaging crops, houses and livestock shelters, while no loss of life has been reported.
District Emergency Officer Lower Chitral Sajjad Ali Yousafzai said Rescue 1122 teams remained on high alert throughout the night, conducting patrols and responding to emergencies in coordination with the district administration.
Flash floods affected different parts of Broze, Seen, Korom Kor and Goldeh, where standing crops, several houses and livestock sheds suffered partial damage.
Rescue teams carried out relief operations and helped reopen roads blocked by floodwaters, restoring traffic flow.
In Osiak village, a taxi vehicle became trapped in a flash flood. Rescue 1122 personnel reached the scene and launched a recovery operation to retrieve the vehicle.
Flash floods in Ayun also caused partial damage to several homes. A mosque was damaged and requires urgent repairs.
A flash flood killed more than 200 goats in Suyir Gol village of Drosh tehsil, causing significant financial losses to local herders.
According to local residents, the floodwaters surged through grazing areas with little warning, leaving livestock owners unable to move their animals to safety. Dozens of dead goats were later recovered from streams and rocky riverbanks.
The affected families said livestock is their primary source of income, and the loss has left them facing severe economic hardship.
Meanwhile, flash floods wrecked havoc in different villages in Upper Chitral as well. Residents of Yarkhun valley told ChitraToday that after intense heat for about three to four days the area received heavy rain early on Wednesday.
They said the rain triggered flash floods in a number of villages destroying standing crops, trees and houses. The floods also damaged water supply lines.
Moreover, the district administration of Lower Chitral said that restoration and relief operations have been launched in the affected areas.
It said that the National Highway Authority (NHA), the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA), Rescue 1122and other relevant departments launched coordinated road clearance, restoration and emergency response operations.
Officials from the district administration are supervising activities on the ground, while Rescue 1122 teams and emergency vehicles have been deployed at key locations to respond promptly to any emergency.
It claimed that due to the timely response and coordinated efforts of all concerned departments, all major link roads across the district have been reopened and traffic flow has returned to normal.
