Islamabad, May 16, 2026: There has been a sharp and concerning increase in Khula and other family court cases in Islamabad, according to court data.
Family courts in the federal capital are reportedly receiving more than 300 cases every day. On average, around 38 cases per hour are being filed, reflecting a rapid escalation in legal disputes related to marriage and family matters.
The total number of khula cases this year has already exceeded 45,000, while over 9,000 new cases are being registered each month in Islamabad alone.
Lawyers and legal experts have linked this rising trend to several socio-economic factors. These include increasing unemployment, drug abuse and a growing number of domestic conflicts driven by financial and social pressures.
The report highlights a worrying situation for the city’s family justice system, as the rising caseload continues to strain court resources and reflects deeper social challenges affecting marital relationships in the region.
