Govt Employees Protest in Chitral, Demand Salary Relief

Protesters demanded withdrawal of new pension reforms and restoration of the previous pension system.

Chitral, May 12, 2026: A protest demonstration was held in Chitral under the banner of All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGIGA), where employees from various government departments gathered to voice their demands and chanted slogans against current policies.

The protest meeting was addressed by district president Zia-ur-Rehman, provincial leader Khairullah Hawari, Waqar Ahmad, Maulana Muhammad Qasim, Muhammad Ashraf, Saleem Abbas, Nisar Ahmad, Saud Azad, and others.

The leaders said that government employees are facing severe financial difficulties due to rising inflation, while existing policies have further increased unrest among workers.

The protesters demanded the withdrawal of new pension reforms and restoration of the previous pension system. They also called for an immediate halt to the privatization and outsourcing of schools and hospitals.

In addition, they urged the government to increase salaries in line with inflation and merge ad-hoc relief allowances into the basic pay.

Employees further demanded the immediate issuance of pending notifications related to their upgradation.

Following the gathering, demonstrators staged a protest outside the Chitral Press Club, where they continued chanting slogans and pressed the government to take urgent action.

Speakers warned that if their legitimate demands are not met, the protest movement will be expanded across the province.
