Govt employees protest cut in firewood allowance

CHITRAL: A protest was held by government employees against the deduction in firewood allowance and abolition of other related perks by the KP government.

The protesters held a rally against cut in firewood allowance, headed by All Government Employees Grand Alliance president Amirul Mulk, which started from Hospital Road and after reaching outside the DC office turned into a protest gathering.

The employees said under a notification of 1943 the government employees were paid the allowance in accordance with the requirement of firewood in winter and summer months. But the PTI government withdrew the notification and limited the allowance to 115 days of the winter months for employees in hilly areas with extreme weather conditions.

They said as inflation was rising, the abolition of the allowance would add to the woes of the employees. They warned the government to withdraw its decision by Dec 6 otherwise the employees would launch a strike and extend its protest.–Gul Hamaad Farooqui
