Chitral, March 31, 2026: The district administration of Lower Chitral has imposed a ban on the use of plastic bags in Kalash Valley to protect the environment and maintain cleanliness at this popular tourist destination.
Plastic bags contribute to environmental pollution, obstruct drainage systems, and harm natural ecosystems. The ban is especially timely ahead of the Chilm Josht Festival (May 12–17, 2026), which is expected to attract large numbers of tourists.
Under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the use, sale, distribution, and storage of plastic bags is now strictly prohibited. The ban is effective immediately and will remain in force for 60 days.
Violators will face legal action under Section 188.Authorities have appealed to both residents and visitors to cooperate and help preserve the natural beauty and ecological health of the valley.
