Chitral, Jan 2, 2026: The University of Chitral is among the public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa affected by the recently issued government directive to implement the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Removal from Service Act, 2025.
According to official records, 63 employees recruited during the caretaker government before the February 2024 elections are now at risk of termination under the new law.
The directive, issued by the KP Higher Education, Archives and Libraries Department on December 31, 2025, instructs all vice chancellors, rectors, and directors of public universities and Degree Awarding Institutes (DAIs) in the province to implement the Act “in true letter and spirit” and submit a certificate of compliance within 10 working days.
The notification clarifies that these appointments, including those at the University of Chitral, had already been examined by the Anomaly Committee and a ministerial committee, with opinions sought from the Establishment and Law Departments. Despite these reviews, strict enforcement of the Act has been emphasized.
Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 645 employees were recruited in 18 universities during the caretaker government, and the University of Chitral accounts for one of the largest groups affected. The move is expected to have significant administrative and legal implications for the employees and university authorities alike.
