Islamabad, Oct 17, 2025: Tremors from a 5.6 magnitude earthquake were felt in Chitral, Swat and surrounding areas on Friday evening, causing panic among residents.
According to the Meteorological Department, the earthquake was also felt in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and nearby regions. The quake occurred at 5:15 p.m. with its epicenter in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region at a depth of 120 kilometers.
Residents of Upper Chitral told ChitraToday on phone that the tremors seemed very intensive and triggered landsliding and rockfalls from mountains in many areas. The road to Broghil was blocked at Shoosht in upper Yarkhun.
