MALAKAND, Oct 16, 2025: A speeding truck carrying nomadic families plunged into a ravine on the Swat Expressway in Malakand on Wednesday night, killing at least 15 people and injuring eight others, rescue officials said.
Rescue 1122 teams said the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn at high speed, causing it to overturn and tumble down the steep ravine. The victims and injured came from the Bahrain area of Swat district.
Rescue workers reached the site immediately after receiving reports of the accident and launched a search and relief operation in the dark.
Deputy Commissioner Malakand Muhammad Fayaz confirmed the number of casualties and stated that most of those who lost their lives were children. He said authorities shifted the bodies and the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment and post-mortem examinations.
Emergency teams continued their operations late into the night, clearing the wreckage and assisting families of the victims.
