PESHAWAR, Sept 24, 2025: The British government is set to introduce a new development programme in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the successful completion of its flagship SEED (Sustainable Energy and Economic Development) and SNG (Sub-National Governance) initiatives.
The announcement was made by British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott during her meeting with Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur at the Chief Minister’s House, Peshawar, on Wednesday.
The SEED and SNG programmes, implemented in close collaboration with the provincial government, have played a transformative role in building institutional capacity, strengthening governance mechanisms, and driving economic reforms across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Chief Minister Gandapur expressed deep appreciation for the British Government’s continued support, acknowledging that these initiatives have made a significant impact on improving efficiency, enhancing transparency, and modernizing service delivery in provincial departments.
Outlining his government’s forward-looking priorities, the Chief Minister emphasized that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is making major investments to confront the challenges of climate change while also advancing the reconstruction of critical infrastructure damaged by recent floods.
He highlighted that particular focus is being directed towards spurring economic growth, with special attention to job creation in the merged districts, in order to provide opportunities for local communities. He further added that the government is committed to digitizing official processes to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective utilization of development resources.
The British High Commissioner welcomed these initiatives and reaffirmed the UK’s resolve to continue its partnership with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in areas related to social welfare, institutional reforms, and sustainable development. She noted that the upcoming programme will be tailored to build upon the achievements of SEED and SNG, ensuring that the province continues to benefit from modernized governance and improved service delivery.
Chief Minister Gandapur reiterated that international cooperation remains crucial for achieving lasting progress in these sectors. He stressed that sustainable peace and long-term stability in the region are closely tied to the situation in Afghanistan, underscoring that dialogue and traditional jirga mechanisms offer the most viable path to a durable solution.
He also noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has hosted Afghan refugees for decades and continues to facilitate their dignified repatriation, assuring that the provincial government is extending full support to returning families while working to strengthen social and economic infrastructure with the assistance of global partners.
