Peshawar, Aug 30, 2025: Heavy rainfall has triggered widespread flooding in several areas of Peshawar, causing major disruptions. Floodwaters inundated residential areas along Warsak Road, forcing authorities to launch boat rescues to evacuate residents from submerged homes.
The downpour also led to severe flooding on Nasirbagh Road and surrounding neighborhoods, with water entering homes and streets. Key areas, including Saddar, GT Road and Gulbahar saw drains overflow, resulting in further urban flooding.
The rains damaged several electrical feeders, leaving large parts of the city without power. Tragically, a child died when the roof of a mud house collapsed, and another person was injured when a house wall fell due to the heavy rain.
In Badhni Nullah, which flows through Dir and Pirbala, water levels have been rising steadily. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warns that the flooding could worsen, threatening lower-lying areas.
Malakand Region: In Malakand, torrential rains have caused flash floods in rivers and seasonal streams, particularly around Batkhela city and nearby areas. A car got stuck in one of the swollen streams, injuring two people. Due to the risk of landslides, authorities have closed the Swat Expressway to traffic.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, as the rains increase the threat of further flooding and landslides. Rescue teams are working relentlessly to provide aid, but the region remains in crisis.
Peshawar and Malakand are grappling with severe flooding, resulting in multiple fatalities, injuries, and widespread damage. Emergency services are intensifying their efforts to assist affected communities, while residents in flood-prone areas are urged to stay alert and follow evacuation orders.
