New Academic Calendar Introduced for Summer and Winter Zones

Peshawar, Aug 27: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched major reforms in the provincial education system.

As part of this initiative, schools in the Summer and Winter Zones will follow a new academic calendar with Fall and Spring semesters. The government will initially implement the system for classes from Nursery to Grade 8.

In the Summer Zone, the academic year will start on September 1. The Fall Semester will run from September 1 to December 31, and the Spring Semester will run from January 16 to May 31.

In the Winter Zone, the academic year will start on March 1, with the Spring Semester from March 1 to June 30 and the Fall Semester from August 1 to December 22.

The government will hold separate examinations for each semester and give both sets of results equal weight when calculating the final results. To reduce students’ textbook burden, it will split the curriculum into two parts, assigning one part to each semester.

The government will mostly maintain the existing holiday schedule, making only minor adjustments. It will use vacation periods to conduct enrollment campaigns, distribute textbooks, train teachers, run student summer and winter camps, and provide technical training programs.

It has been decided to maintain separate academic years for the Summer and Winter Zones because of the distinct climatic conditions in each region. This system will give students more opportunities for co-curricular activities and technical skill development and will allow the efficient use of government resources.
