CHITRAL, July 29: The second phase of the Terichmir trekking expedition has been successfully completed, marking another milestone in the promotion of high-altitude adventure tourism in Upper Chitral.
The initiative, organized by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), saw a team of 20 trekkers reach the Terichmir base camp, located at the foot of Pakistan’s highest peak (7,708 meters).
The team departed from Chitral on July 25, following a scenic and challenging route through Mroi, Koghuzi, Shagram, Oveer, and Shabronz, with an overnight stay at Shokhorshal before reaching the final destination.
At the base camp, the trekkers hoisted the national flag, celebrating the successful completion of the first-ever government-supported trek to Terichmir base camp. Participants expressed gratitude for KPCTA’s support, which included T-shirts, caps, national flags, and water bottles.
This historic expedition highlights the region’s vast adventure tourism potential and paves the way for more organized trekking missions in the Hindu Kush.
First Phase Completed Earlier
The first phase of the expedition began on July 13, with another group of 20 trekkers setting off from Shagram Valley and proceeding through Shenyak Camp, Shoghor Biasum, and Istoro Nal Valley to reach Babu Base Camp at 4,720 meters altitude.
The initiative attracted over 600 applicants, including more than 100 women, and is supported by the KPCTA’s decision to waive mountain royalty fees for the 2025–26 season.
An all-women trekking group is scheduled to begin the same route in early August, underlining the province’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable tourism development.
