Two Chitral Scouts Martyred, Five Injured in Cross-Border Attack in Ursoon Valley

CHITRAL: July 27, 2025 — Two Chitral Scouts personnel were martyred and five others injured in a cross-border terrorist attack from Afghanistan in the Ursoon Valley of Lower Chitral, according to local sources.

The incident occurred early Saturday morning when militants opened fire on a Pakistani military post situated near the Afghanistan border. One soldier embraced martyrdom on the spot, while six others sustained injuries. A second soldier later succumbed to his wounds during treatment, raising the death toll to two.

Security forces responded promptly and launched a search and clearance operation in the area. The condition of the injured personnel is reported to be stable.

This latest attack highlights the continuing threat of cross-border terrorism in the region, especially in border villages like Ursoon, which have remained vulnerable due to their proximity to the Afghan frontier.

On September 6, 2023, heavily armed militants affiliated with TTP and Al-Qaeda infiltrated the Chitral border region, targeting military posts in Ursoon, Astoi-Bumburate, and Jinjiret Koh.

In that coordinated assault, four Chitral Scouts personnel were martyred, and at least 12 terrorists were killed in retaliatory action. Subsequent operations led to the killing of more militants and the recovery of weapons and supplies.
