ISLAMABAD: A court in Islamabad on Monday remanded Omar Hayat, the prime suspect in the murder of Chitrali social media star Sana Yousuf, to Adiala Jail after the expiry of his physical remand.
The alleged killer was presented before Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Hafeez. As the prosecution did not request an extension, the court ordered that the accused be placed on judicial remand.
During the proceedings, Hayat’s defence counsel raised concerns that he had not been allowed to meet his parents in court, alleging that the intense media spotlight on the case was infringing upon the accused’s fundamental rights.
In response, the judge stated that visitation rights would now be governed by the jail administration, in accordance with prison regulations, as the suspect had been moved to judicial custody.
Sana Yousuf, a prominent social media influencer from Chitral, was allegedly murdered by Hayat in Islamabad\’s G-13 sector on June 2. The alleged killer, a native of Faisalabad, was arrested from his hometown the next day.
