Gujjar leader seeks action against poet

CHITRAL: Legal action has been sought against Booni-based poet Shamsul Hussain Baazi for allegedly using derogatory language against the Gujjar community in his poetry and spreading it via social media.

The chairman of Village Council Tar in Shishi Koh and General Secretary of Gujjar Youth Forum Chitral Qari Abdul Rehman Jamali told a press conference here that the poetry had deeply hurt the Gujjar community.

He urged the district administrations of Upper and Lower Chitral to take action against Baazi under PECA and ensure strict punishment to prevent such incidents in the future.

He emphasized that all communities are equal under the law and accused the poet of inciting hatred against the Gujjar community and creating barriers for Gujjars’ livelihood in Chitral.

He said the community was open to forgiving the poet if he  apologize at the Chitral Press Club otherwise legal action and strong protests will follow.
