GUJAR KHAN: Two teenagers reportedly drowned while swimming in the Jhelum River near the old bridge in Gujar Khan yesterday.
Rescue 1122 confirmed the victims as Muhtasim (17), son of Abdul Jaleel, and Masood (18), son of Shah Mahmood — both from Chitral.
Rescue teams, including divers, launched a swift operation and recovered both bodies after several hours. District Emergency Officer (DEO) Rana Saeed Ahmed said the boys ventured into deep waters beyond the safe zone.
“Despite our immediate response, the strong current and depth made the rescue difficult. Sadly, we recovered their bodies after an extensive search,” he said.
