MASTUJ: Female students and their parents in Mastuj have staged a protest against what they described as a forced admission decision and demanded that the students’ classes be conducted at Government Higher Secondary School Mastuj rather than being shifted to the Govt Degree College Mastuj.
The protesters gathered outside Government Higher Secondary School Mastuj and called on the authorities to withdraw the decision and allow the students to continue their education at the institution of their choice.
The protest followed a recent notice issued by Government Girls Degree College Mastuj principal ordering the admission of 28 female students of the school in the college.
However, parents and students strongly objected to what they described as unnecessary restrictions and pressure to secure admission to a specific institution.
They said every student had the fundamental and legal right to pursue education and choose an educational institution according to personal preference. They maintained that no institution or administration should interfere with students’ educational choices or restrict their freedom.
The protesters demanded that the 28 students be given complete freedom to seek admission to the college or institution of their choice and that the alleged forced administrative decision be withdrawn immediately.
They also called on the authorities to ensure that neither students nor their parents are subjected to administrative or academic pressure.
The parents and students urged the relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the matter and resolve the issue in accordance with the students’ rights and educational interests.
They warned that if their demands were not accepted, the students would be compelled to intensify their protest and could observe a hunger strike.
The protesters said they would continue to raise their concerns through legal, democratic and peaceful means if the issue remained unresolved.
