BOONI: The Upper Chitral District Police seized 60 kilograms of raw opium in an operation in the Yarkhun Lasht area.
According to the police, the action was carried out by SHO Yarkhun Lasht Muhammad Ajam Khan, Meragram No. 2 Police Post In-charge Farooq and other police personnel.
During the operation, police recovered 60kg of raw opium, which was allegedly cultivated in the area. A suspect, Ayub Ali, son of Sher Gori Khan, a resident of Zhupo, was arrested in connection with the case.
Police said further investigation is underway to determine the source and circumstances surrounding the cultivation and possession of the narcotics.
The Upper Chitral District Police said operations against narcotics would continue across the district and that strict legal action would be taken without discrimination against those involved in the drug trade and related activities.
