Lotkoh Elders Oppose New Tehsil

Chitral, July 10, 2026: Community elders and political representatives from Lotkoh have rejected the proposal to establish a new tehsil, calling instead for the restoration of Tehsil Lotkoh, which they say already has the necessary administrative infrastructure.

The demand was made during an all-parties conference held in Garam Chashma under the banner of the Lotkoh Development Forum (LDF).

The meeting was held after MPA Fatehul Mulk Ali Nasir, backed by some other MPAs, a few days ago submitted a resolution in the KP Assembly demanding the government immediately restore Tehsil Khuzaar in Lower Chitral, with its headquarters at Shoghore.

The meeting was attended by senior leaders of various political parties, local elders, traders, transport union representatives, and residents from Karimabad, Arkari, and Garam Chashma.

Following detailed deliberations, participants unanimously agreed that there was no need for a new tehsil, arguing that Tehsil Lotkoh had served the region for decades and that its administrative structure remains in place.

Speakers said Lotkoh comprises three closely connected areas—Karimabad, Arkari, and Garam Chashma—and emphasized that their social, cultural, and family ties are stronger than administrative boundaries.

They expressed confidence that the government would avoid any decision that could create divisions among the communities.

The participants also identified the Garam Chashma Road as the region’s most pressing development issue. They argued that spending billions of rupees to establish a parallel administrative structure in another valley would be an inefficient use of public funds, urging the government instead to invest those resources in upgrading the road.

A committee was formed to present a unanimous resolution to the Deputy Commissioner of Lower Chitral, Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA), and other relevant authorities, seeking the restoration of Tehsil Lotkoh.

The meeting concluded with participants expressing appreciation to the Lotkoh Development Forum for providing a platform to address regional issues and promote unity among the people of the valley.
