Booni, May 10, 2026: A powerful windstorm accompanied by dust and strong gusts struck various parts of Upper Chitral on Sunday evening, causing significant damage to homes, trees and electricity infrastructure, local sources reported.
In several areas, intense winds uprooted trees and blew off rooftops, disrupting daily life and leaving some areas without power.
Chitral floods leave widespread damages to houses, other properties
The worst-affected areas include Mulkhow and Torkhow, where houses belonging to residents identified as Akhtar Ali, Sikandar and Ibrahim Khan suffered damages after roof sheets were torn off by the force of the storm. Numerous trees were also damaged or uprooted.
Despite the intensity of the storm, no casualties have been reported so far.
In a separate incident in Ujnu village, strong winds ripped off tin roofs and wooden structures from two rooms of a guesthouse owned by Musharraf Shah, son of Abdar Shah. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this incident either.
Another rain spell causes flooding, landsliding
Residents have expressed concern over recurring extreme weather events and called for improved infrastructure to withstand such conditions. Local authorities are reportedly assessing the damages and reports from other areas are yet to come.
