Emotional Farewell to Afghan Refugees After Half Century

Chitral, Feb 3, 2026: Setting a remarkable example of humanity, brotherhood and mutual respect, the Zargarandeh community of Chitral organized a farewell ceremony in honour of their Afghan brothers who are returning to their homeland after living in the area for nearly five decades.

The ceremony was held at Zargarandeh City College on the occasion of the repatriation of Afghan families who had been residing in the area for the past 49 years.

A large number of local elders, political and social figures, and members of the Afghan community attended the event. The atmosphere was deeply emotional as locals bid farewell to people with whom they had shared their lives for almost half a century.

Speaking on the occasion, community representatives, including Nasir Ahmad, Mufti Atiq, Principal Masroor Ahmad and Rustam Niazo, said the Afghan community had remained an inseparable part of local society.

They paid tribute to the Afghan families, stating that strong bonds of love, respect and goodwill had developed between the two communities over the years. The speakers also expressed their best wishes for the Afghan brothers’ safe journey and a prosperous new life in their homeland.

Representatives of the Afghan community expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Zargarandeh for their hospitality and brotherhood. They said they never felt like foreigners during their stay in Chitral and that the respect, dignity and equality shown to them would remain unforgettable.

The speakers said the event was not merely a farewell ceremony, but a strong message to the world that relationships built on humanity and mutual respect transcend geographical boundaries.

The gathering concluded with prayers and emotional goodbyes, marking a memorable chapter of unity and shared history between the two communities.
