Peshawar, Feb 2, 2026: The Rural Health Centre (RHC) Shagram Upper Chitral is once again being placed under the management of the Aga Khan Health Service Pakistan (AKHS), following approval by the Health Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The decision comes after months of disruption caused by the expiry of the previous agreement between AKHS and the Health Foundation.
The matter was taken up by local residents with Deputy Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Suriya Bibi, who played a key role in resolving the issue through continuous coordination with relevant authorities, according to a statement from her office.
Earlier, elders from Torkhow, led by Mir Jamshaiduddin, had met the deputy speaker to highlight the hardships faced by the local population due to the suspension of services. Their concerns led to the restoration of AKHS management at the facility.
According to officials, the formal contract will be signed on February 15 at the Chief Minister House in Peshawar. In the meantime, to avoid inconvenience to patients, AKHS has started providing healthcare services at RHC Shagram on an emergency basis.
