ISLAMABAD/CHITRAL, Oct 22, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s much-anticipated visit to Chitral, scheduled for today, has been cancelled citing security reasons, sources confirmed to ChitralToday.
The trip, which was expected to include meetings with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers, the inauguration of a Daanish school in Saeedabad, and a personal visit to Gahiret village to congratulate junior staff member Fazlur Rehman Shahid on his recent wedding, will no longer take place.
The abrupt cancellation has sparked speculation about the reasons behind the change, though the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has yet to issue an official statement. Local authorities and political leaders are awaiting further guidance from the federal government.
The visit had been viewed as an opportunity to address key regional concerns, including infrastructure development and healthcare improvements. With the cancellation, questions remain about how these issues will be prioritized going forward.
