Lahore, August 2, 2025 — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Pakistan on Saturday for his first official two-day visit.
He is accompanied by a high-level delegation. The Iranian president landed in Lahore, where he was warmly received by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The airport was decorated with Pakistani and Iranian flags. A red carpet was rolled out for the welcome.
President Pezeshkian visited the Mausoleum of Allama Iqbal to pay his respects. He was scheduled to leave for Islamabad later today. In the capital, he will meet with President Asif Ali Zardari, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani.
Before departing Iran, President Pezeshkian said the visit aims to boost trade and economic ties. He stressed the need for stronger border security and regional cooperation.
“We want to raise trade volume to $10 billion and explore new opportunities through cross-border markets,” he said.
He also expressed interest in Iran’s participation in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). According to him, these projects could connect Iran with European markets.
President Pezeshkian added that any attempts to damage Iran–Pakistan unity would not succeed.
