CHITRAL: In a landmark moment for football in Pakistan, Kamal Abdul Jamil has become the first-ever candidate from Chitral to contest the central elections of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).
Kamal ran for the prestigious position of Executive Member representing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the elections held recently in Lahore.
Contesting under the banner of the Mushin Gellani group, who also clinched the PFF presidency, Kamal Abdul Jamil received 12 votes from the PFF Congress. He was one of four candidates vying for two executive seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
In an intense and closely fought competition, all four candidates, representing two rival panels, secured an equal number of votes (12 each), resulting in a tie. A re-vote was conducted, which once again led to a deadlock. As per the PFF constitution, the election will now be reconvened in the next Congress session.
The role of executive member within the PFF is regarded as a key position, carrying significant influence in shaping the future of football in the country.
Kamal Abdul Jamil’s nomination is not only a personal milestone but also a moment of pride for Chitral. It marks the region’s first meaningful representation in national-level football governance.
Local sports observers and community leaders have hailed Kamal’s candidacy as a turning point that could pave the way for greater investment and development in football and other sports in Chitral.
“This is more than just a candidacy – it’s a breakthrough,” remarked one official. “Kamal’s presence at the national table could open new doors for young athletes in the region.”
