CHITRAL: Krizma is a beautiful and beneficial plant that grows in the temperate to subalpine regions of Chitral, at altitudes ranging from 1300 to 3600 meters.
It belongs to the Iridaceae family. Its funnel-shaped flowers bloom from May to June and appear in shades of purple, blue, or white. The leaves are tough, strap-like, and greyish-green.
Its rhizome, covered with reddish-purple fibers, is dried and ground into a powder. This powder is traditionally used to treat diarrhoea, inflammation, and wounds. In winter, the plant is also harvested and stored as fodder for goats and sheep.
This herb is a valuable asset in the rich biodiversity of Chitral.
